The Land Transport Authority (LTA) conducted sting operations on 7 June 2018 at several locations to enforce against car dealers and owners who possessed deregistered vehicles that were either declared as exported, or kept beyond the permissible deadline for the vehicles to be disposed.
2. A total of 120 vehicles, mostly saloon cars, were seized during the operations. The owners of the raided premises are currently assisting with LTA’s investigations. Please refer to the Annex for photographs of the operations.
Reminder to Vehicle Owners
3. LTA wishes to remind all vehicle owners that within a month from deregistering a vehicle, the vehicle owner must submit to LTA proof that the deregistered vehicle has been properly disposed of at LTA-authorised scrapyards, LTA-authorised Export Processing Zones, or exported overseas.
4. It is a serious offence to make a false declaration to LTA on the disposal of a vehicle. Any person found guilty of such an offence may be fined up to $5,000 or jailed up to 12 months or both.
5. It is an also offence for anyone to possess, use or allow to be used a deregistered vehicle beyond the permissible deadline. Offenders may be charged in court and fined up to $2,000 or jailed up to three months or both for the first offence. Repeat offenders may be fined up to $5,000 or jailed up to six months or both.
6. Unregistered or deregistered vehicles are not covered by insurance. Any person found guilty of driving an uninsured vehicle may be fined up to $1,000 or jailed up to three months or both. In addition, the offender will be disqualified from driving for at least one year.
