Update for Malaysia-Registered Taxis Entering Singapore

News Releases 25 Jun 2026 cross border taxi

Revision to ASEAN Public Service Vehicle Permit Fee from 1 January 2027

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) issues Public Service Vehicle Licences (PSVLs) and ASEAN Public Service Vehicle Permits (PSVPs) to Malaysia-registered taxis to provide cross-border taxi services between Singapore and Malaysia. Only Malaysia-registered taxis licensed with a valid PSVL and an ASEAN PSVP issued by the LTA are allowed to operate cross-border services between the two countries.

2.        The PSVP fee for Malaysia-registered taxis entering Singapore will be increased to SGD$15 per trip, up from the current SGD$2 per month, with effect from 1 January 2027. The adjustment aims to narrow the cost gap between Malaysia-registered taxis and Singapore-registered taxis operating in Singapore.

3.        Commuters are advised to use only licensed taxis for cross-border travel as only these have valid insurance coverage. Unlicensed vehicles are not appropriately insured and could potentially leave passengers without recourse if they are involved in a traffic accident. LTA will continue to take enforcement action against illegal point-to-point transport services to safeguard the safety of commuters and livelihoods of licensed drivers.
