Working together to keep public transport clean and comfortable

Media Replies 07 Jul 2026 public transport

We refer to Mr Li Kaiqi's letter, "Trimming fingernails on MRT should also be punishable by fine".

Public transport is a shared space, and trimming fingernails on trains is inconsiderate behaviour.

LTA and public transport operators have measures in place to address such behaviour on public transport. Under the Rapid Transit Systems Regulations, passengers who litter or cause nuisance or annoyance to other passengers can be fined up to $5,000.

We encourage all commuters to be considerate and play their part in keeping journeys clean and pleasant for everyone.
