A series of works will be carried out to improve traffic at Serangoon Road

Media Replies 09 Feb 2008

We refer to the letter "Please improve traffic on Serangoon Road" (Lianhe Zaobao, 18 January 2008).

In September 2008, Phase 2 of the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) will open. Designed to provide a direct route from the north-eastern corridors to the city, the KPE offers an alternative to motorists travelling along arterial roads from Punggol, Sengkang and Hougang towards Serangoon Road. This will help to alleviate traffic congestion along Serangoon Road between Boon Keng Road and the Pan Island Expressway (PIE).

Traffic conditions along Serangoon Road are also expected to be further improved with the completion of upgrading works to the Woodsville Interchange. The construction of a tunnel directly connecting Serangoon Road and Upper Serangoon Road when completed in 2011, effectively allows motorists to bypass the Woodsville traffic junction.

For safety reasons, we are unable to re-open the road linking Kallang Bahru to the PIE or construct a road by-passing Serangoon Road as it will be too close to the entry to the PIE from KPE.
