Singapore’s rail story comes to life
1. Ever wonder how those gigantic MRT tunnels are created? Imagine a two-storey high, 50-tonne round behemoth grinding through giant rocks and dirt. Still can’t picture it? Come check out a mini–tunnel boring machine (TBM) and more to see just how rail lines are built at the rail road show organised by the Land Transport Authority.
2. Between November 2014 and January 2015, the story of how Singapore’s rail lines are expanded will be featured at Parkway Parade, Thomson Plaza, Bedok Mall, and Katong I12 –plus more stories behind constructing our massive rail system (Annex A). With interactive screens and videos, road show visitors will learn more about our rail network expansion plans and even get to see the MRT station layouts. During weekends, visitors can take part in games and quizzes to learn more about what it takes to build a rail line.
3. But it takes more than hardware and technology to build a rail system. People make the work happen. Meet the men and women of LTA who design, build and deliver Singapore’s rail network. Learn about how they come face-to-face with the demanding conditions everyday and at the same time, work with communities so works move smoothly and on schedule.
4. Roving exhibits will also be on display at public libraries between January and May 2015 so commuters can learn about the new rail lines and expansion plans.
