Bus Stops Designed Not to Obstruct Traffic

Media Replies 06 Aug 2012

We refer to Seah Kok Tiong’s letter, "Bus stops along slip roads” (The Straits Times, 28 July 2012).

To enhance the bus network connectivity for bus commuters travelling en-route in the north, north-eastern and eastern part of Singapore, LTA is constructing a pair of bus stops along the slip roads leading to the Tampines Expressway (TPE). When completed in 2014, the bus stops will enhance the bus connectivity for residents in Sengkang and Punggol, as they would be able to make transfers to/from the bus services that currently ply along TPE that do not go into Punggol Road.

We are mindful of the traffic situation along the slip roads leading to the TPE and have incorporated bus bays in the design of the new bus stops. This will allow buses to pick up/drop-off passengers at the bus stops safely without obstructing vehicular traffic.

We will continue to monitor the traffic situation closely when the new bus stops are completed to review whether adjustments are necessary to enhance the traffic flow.
