The upgrading of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jalan Anak Bukit started in 2015 and a new city bound carriageway along Upper Bukit Timah Road was opened to the public on 2 April 2021.
The project involves the construction of a new city-bound carriageway along Upper Bukit Timah Road between Upper Bukit Timah Road/Jalan Jurong Kechil junction and Upper Bukit Timah Road/Clementi Road junction. The new carriageway provides an alternative route to Dunearn Road and Clementi Road. Motorists travelling from the Toh Tuck, Toh Yi and Bukit Batok estates via Jalan Jurong Kechil can turn right at the junction with Upper Bukit Timah Road to get to Dunearn Road, Clementi Road or the city. This also enhances the local road network in the vicinity, especially for the estates around Jalan Jurong Kechil.
Stretches of Jalan Anak Bukit and Jalan Jurong Kechil have also been widened for smoother traffic and this helps to enhance reliability of bus services and serve new developments in the area.
While most works have been completed, there remains some minor road works which will be completed by end 2021, subject to the evolving COVID-19 situation.
In addition to improving the road network, cycling tracks and covered linkways have also been provided to enhance first and last mile connectivity to the MRT Station and to encourage active mobility as an alternative option of commuting.
