Work Zone Signs

Media Replies 18 Nov 2013

We thank Mr Chin Kee Thou for his feedback ("Do away with redundant road signs"; Forum Online, Nov 9).

Under the Code of Practice for Traffic Control at Work Zones, the Land Transport Authority requires all contractors who carry out works on the public streets to prominently mark the boundaries of their work zones with the necessary traffic signs, barricades and cones.

This ensures that motorists are aware of the zone where road works are taking place, and slow down if necessary.

Hence, besides the "Start of Work Zone" sign that alerts motorists of the road works ahead, an "End of Work Zone" sign is also needed to inform the motorists that they have passed the work zone.

Such signs are taken down when the road works are completed.
