We refer to the letter, "Consider MRT stations at former Keat Hong Camp’", by Mr Lee Kong Ho (TODAY, July 1).
In planning and designing the alignment of new rail lines and stations, LTA works closely with land use agencies to ensure that land use and transport planning are well-coordinated and Singaporeans are well served in the process. These plans are periodically reviewed to take into consideration the impact of redevelopment and intensification of mature estates.
When identifying locations for new MRT stations, LTA considers various aspects including current and future land use plans, accessibility by commuters and to amenities, site constraints, travel time, safety and feasibility in construction, and cost of the project. Adding a station to an operating railway would also need considerable modification to the systems and infrastructure.
We would like to assure Mr Lee that we will continue to work closely with land use agencies and review the transport plans accordingly in Choa Chu Kang area.
