Faster Journeys and Greater Convenience
for Commuters Travelling to Tuas
Commuters travelling to the Tuas area can look forward to greater convenience and connectivity when the new 7.5km Tuas West Extension (TWE) begins operations on 18 June 2017. Commuters can also catch a preview of the extension at the TWE Open House on 16 June 2017.
2. Comprising four aboveground stations – Gul Circle, Tuas Crescent, Tuas West Road and Tuas Link, the TWE is expected to serve 100,000 commuters daily. Commuters working in the Jurong and Tuas Industrial estates can look forward to significant time savings. For example, a journey from Ang Mo Kio to Tuas West can be cut by about 35 minutes from about 100 minutes currently, to 65 minutes with the new extension.
3. To further improve transfers between rail and bus for commuters as well as the overall accessibility to the area, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will also be enhancing the existing bus service network. Operational details of the TWE and the enhanced bus network will be shared in the coming weeks.
4. The TWE will operate on the new signalling system that we will be using on the rest of the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL). Besides the four stations, the TWE project also includes the construction of the Tuas viaduct, which opened on 18 February this year, as well as a 26-hectare integrated depot, which provides stabling and maintenance facilities for up to 60 trains, including the additional 13 NSEWL trains purchased for the TWE.
Free Travel and Preview at TWE Open House!
5. Commuters are invited to preview the new extension at the TWE Open House on 16 June 2017, where all four stations will be opened to public from 12pm to 8pm. Besides being able to ride the trains along the TWE for free, visitors can also participate in exciting games and activities at the Open House.
Roving Exhibitions
6. To raise awareness about the TWE, LTA will also be holding roving exhibitions in the few weeks leading up to the opening. The roving exhibitions will be held on 10 days at four stations on the East-West Line: between 7 am and 9am at Jurong East, Boon Lay, Pioneer and Joo Koon; and between 11am and 1pm at Boon Lay and Joo Koon.
