New Southbound Lornie Highway to Open on 28 October 2018

News Releases 11 Oct 2018 Lornie Highway

The southbound section of the Lornie Highway has been completed and will be open to traffic on 28 October 2018 (Sunday)[1]. This section of Lornie Highway is parallel to Lornie Road and facilitates traffic flow from the existing Thomson Road/Lornie Road towards the Pan Island Expressway (PIE)/Adam Road/Farrer Road.

2.  A new vehicular underpass constructed near the entrance of the highway will allow motorists to access the residential area along Lornie Road, while a temporary road connection near Sime Road has been constructed to connect traffic from the existing southbound Lornie Road to southbound Lornie Highway (Please refer to Annex A for details of the new southbound Lornie Highway and changes in the area’s road connections).

Upcoming road changes

3.  With the opening of southbound Lornie Highway, motorists heading towards PIE, Adam Road and Farrer Road are advised to use the new Lornie Highway to reach their destinations. The existing southbound four-lane Lornie Road will progressively be downgraded to two lanes from 28 October 2018. The new Lornie Highway, when fully completed, will help to ease congestion along Lornie Road and the PIE, and cater to expected growth in future traffic demand.

Bus route adjustments

4.  Bus Services 52, 74, 93, 852 and 855, which currently ply Lornie Road (towards Adam Road), will be adjusted to ply the new southbound Lornie Highway, while Bus Services 157 and 165 will continue to ply Lornie Road. The existing bus stop along southbound Lornie Road opposite Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) will also be relocated to the southbound Lornie Highway before Kheam Hock Road[2] (towards Adam Road/ Bukit Timah Road). There are no bus route changes at present for the seven bus services that ply along the northbound Lornie Road (towards Thomson Road/ Braddell Road). Please refer to Annex B for details of the bus route adjustments.

More information on road changes

5.  Motorists are advised to plan their routes in advance. Traffic signs will be available on site to help motorists navigate to their destinations. To familiarise motorists with the new road network, LTA is producing a series of videos showing the routes they can take when travelling in the area. The videos will be available on LTA’s website (www.lta.gov.sg) and YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/LTAsingapore) approximately one week before the opening, from 22 October 2018.

6.  The public can also refer to maps that will be published in the newspapers and listen to radio messages broadcast on LTA Traffic News before the opening of the new highway.

7.  The northbound Lornie Highway towards MacRitchie Viaduct will be completed in phases, with the entire stretch expected to complete in the first-quarter of 2019. Detailed route changes of the surrounding areas will be shared closer to the opening date of northbound Lornie Highway.

Appreciation from nearby residents

8.  Residents who have been waiting for the opening of the southbound Lornie Highway have expressed appreciation for the completion of the works on the southbound Lornie Highway. Ms Wendy Montgomery from Adam Drive shared that “the project team did a great job of keeping us all informed from the very start of the project and at important milestones throughout. They did this in a very personal way by informing us ahead of time of all the upcoming works by door-to-door engagements backed up with circulars and brochures. We are excited on the opening of the new Lornie Highway and what that means to all of us in the area. I passed by the new highway the other day and it’s looking impressive.”

9.  Another resident from Sime Road Estate, Mrs Koh, shared that “as residents, we are naturally being inconvenienced by the noise, dust and vibration. However, LTA and Swee Hong Limited have kept us informed regularly when there are works that would affect the residents. They also keep us updated of the progress. The contractor has also been responsive to the feedback / complaints by the residents.”

10. LTA will continue to work closely with the contractor to ensure that the works are kept on schedule, and that inconveniences to nearby residents and motorists are kept to a minimum.
