Reduced Toll Charges During Off-Peak Periods at the Second Link

News Releases 09 Feb 2018 toll charges

Malaysia has announced that they will be reducing the Second Link toll charges to encourage more vehicles to travel via the Second Link, and during off-peak periods. In line with Singapore’s long-standing policy, Singapore will also be matching the toll reduction at the Second Link from 1 April 2018. These measures should together help to reduce congestion at the Second Link during peak periods and at the Causeway.

2.  Singapore welcomes Malaysia’s lowering of tolls at the Second Link for off-peak periods. During the 8th Singapore-Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat on 16 January 2018, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak discussed lowering tolls at the Second Link and introducing differentiated charging to alleviate the congestion at the Checkpoints.

3.  From 1 April 2018, Singapore’s toll charges for all vehicles (except motorcycles) leaving and entering Singapore through Tuas Checkpoint will experience reduced charges of more than 85 per cent during the off-peak hours of 10am to 3pm and 11pm to 5am daily. LTA will also revise the peak period tolls from 5am to 10am and 3pm to 11pm to adjust for changes in exchange rates since the tolls were last set in 2010. The revised toll charges at Tuas Checkpoint are reflected in the table below.

4.  There are no changes to the toll charges at Woodlands Checkpoint.

5.  Singapore also welcomes the increased frequency of the Tebrau shuttle service by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) from 26 trips to 31 trips daily, and Malaysia’s reduction of their Customs levy for commercial vehicles at the Second Link. These will help address congestion at the Causeway and lower cross-border transport costs.
