Joint Factsheet by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), SBS Transit & SMRT - Co-creating Solutions to Meet Land Transport Needs

News Releases 22 Aug 2019 Factsheet Land Transport Industry Transformation Map (LTITM)

To discover new solutions for public transportation, LTA, SBS Transit and SMRT jointly launched an industry-wide open innovation programme – the Singapore Mobility Challenge in June this year.

2.   The Challenge invited participants to come up with innovative ideas on how to tackle challenges in three key areas outlined in the recently published Land Transport Master Plan (LTMP) 2040: 20-Minute Towns & a 45-Minute City, Transport for All and Healthy Lives, Safer Journeys. A total of 112 submissions from 21 countries were received with proposed solutions in response to the challenge statements in rail and bus operations, maintenance and commuter services.

3.   Six proposals were shortlisted for a final round of judging to determine the top three winners. These shortlisted teams had the opportunity to work with relevant subject matter experts from LTA, SBS Transit or SMRT to refine their proposals. These proposals were presented to a panel of judges comprising of chief technology officers of the organisers on 20 August 2019.

Winners

Proposed Solutions

1.

Azendian

Azendian has proposed a customised, integrated manpower planning system leveraging data analytics to analyse and intelligently assign staff duty to train and bus operations and maintenance schedules. The system can potentially improve operations efficiency, increase workforce proficiency and productivity; in turn reducing train delays and increasing commuter satisfaction.

2.

Silentium

Silentium has proposed a system that can identify and address noise levels from the LRT network. Using a patented technology, the system would sample noises from their sources and utilise predictive cancelling waves to reduce noise levels.

3.

Carmen Automotive

Carmen Automotive has proposed a predictive decision support system for condition monitoring of vehicles to improve maintenance regimes. Leveraging vehicles’ operating data, the system is able to generate insights of the vehicle’s health and notifications for maintenance to be carried out in a timely manner, and aims to help operators minimise service disruptions and increase cost efficiencies.

5.   Beyond the challenge, the co-organisers will continue to explore further development of the solutions with the start-ups.
