The Land Transport Authority (LTA), together with SMRT and our main contractor Alstom, have completed the changeout of all the 22kV circuit breaker trip coils along the Tuas West Extension (TWE).
2 Trip coils are components in circuit breakers which function to isolate power faults. As a pre-emptive measure against power cable faults and potential service disruptions, it was previously announced that all 113 trip coils will be replaced by end 2020. The early closures carried out last month along the TWE expedited the completion of this replacement programme.
3 As part of the package of precautionary measures to be implemented for TWE, about 150km of 22kV cables along the TWE will also be replaced. The new batch of higher-specification cables are scheduled to arrive progressively from mid-December 2020. Changeout works will commence in January 2021, beginning with the section along Tuas Depot Intake and Tuas Link station. For a start, these works will be carried out during normal engineering hours.
4 LTA and SMRT will subsequently schedule Early Closures / Late Openings on weekends or Full Sunday Closures from March to May 2021 along the TWE to speed up cable replacement works that is expected to complete by end-2021. The public will be given early notice of the scheduled early closure dates and affected stations.
