Vehicle Entry Permit Fees Waived for Malaysian Motorists from 18 March to 14 April 2020

News Releases 31 Mar 2020 Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)

In response to feedback from Malaysian workers in Singapore, their employers and unions, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will provide a one-off waiver of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) fees for all owners of Malaysia-registered cars and motorcycles who have had to stay on in Singapore from 18 March to 14 April 2020[1] due to Malaysia’s Movement Control Order.

2          This will be automatically processed by LTA for motorists who leave Singapore from 0000 hrs on 15 April 2020 onwards. There is no need for Malaysian motorists to submit any application for the waiver. Together with the automatic extension of the VEP validity period until 30 June 2020[2], this will make it easier for Malaysians who have had to remain in Singapore for an extended period of time to continue working here.

3          Malaysian motorists are reminded to ensure they have sufficient value in their Autopass cards for any remaining VEP fees payable, as well as the Reciprocal Road Charge (for foreign cars only), ERP charges and tolls (where applicable). Motorists may use LTA’s online calculator at www.onemotoring.com.sg to calculate the total amount payable for their vehicles. Motorists should also ensure that they have valid vehicle insurance cover for their stay in Singapore.

[1] Currently, all foreign-registered vehicles are required to pay VEP fees of $4/day for motorcycles and $35/day for cars, with each VEP valid for 14 days from the date of entry into Singapore. VEP fees are not payable between 5pm and 2am on weekdays, and on weekends and Singapore Public Holidays; foreign-registered vehicles are also currently granted 10 VEP-free days per year.
[2] LTA announced on 26 March 2020 that it would extend the VEP validity period for Malaysia-registered vehicles until 30 June 2020.
