The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has appointed the NTUC LearningHub (LHUB) as a new training provider and the Singapore Polytechnic (SP) as a new test centre for the Taxi Driver’s Vocational Licence (TDVL) and Private Hire Car Driver’s Vocational Licence (PDVL) courses. SP and LHUB will start these services from 15 August 2020 and 1 September 2020 respectively.
With LHUB’s appointment, there will now be three training service providers. The other two are ComfortDelgro (CDG) Taxi[1] and Singapore Taxi Academy (STA)[2].
SP will replace the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) as a test centre for TDVL and PDVL courses. The latter will cease to provide test services from 30 September this year.
LTA is working with LHUB and SP to provide more holistic upskilling and reskilling opportunities for taxi and private hire car (PHC) drivers. This will enhance drivers’ skillsets and employability, to help ease their transition to other sectors.
In consultation with industry stakeholders, LTA is reviewing the current TDVL and PDVL curriculum for greater parity between the taxi and PHC industries. The current curriculum will be updated to take into account evolving industry practices and new technologies so that the training programme remains relevant to the industry’s needs. More details will be released in Q42020.
