We thank Mr Chen Han Bin for his feedback (Avoid loud noises on public transport, 17 July 2023).
We agree with Mr Chen that commuters should keep their volume down, such as when speaking and using their devices, so that everyone can enjoy a quieter ride. LTA has been actively promoting this behaviour along with other gracious commuting norms such as moving in to allow others to board, giving up seats to those who need them more, giving way to others and setting our bags down to create space.
Together with partners such as the Public Transport Council, Singapore Kindness Movement, and Public Transport Operators, we run an annual Graciousness on Public Transport campaign to promote and encourage thoughtful behaviour on our trains and buses. Besides publicising our graciousness messages across public transport nodes, including sheltered walkways, MRT stations and buses, we also engage schools to inculcate these norms in students from young. We will continue to work with our partners to strengthen publicity efforts.
Fostering a culture of graciousness is ultimately a collective responsibility which goes beyond public education. We hope that all commuters can be mindful that public transport is a shared space and do their part to help create more enjoyable rides for all.
