We thank Ms Li Qiuwen for her feedback (机场地铁服务应有好替代方案, 30 Nov) on the upcoming East-West Line (EWL) service adjustments from 7 to 10 December 2024.
We would like to clarify that train service remains available at Changi Airport during the period of service adjustments. Commuters heading to the airport from the EWL can transfer to a shuttle train at Tanah Merah station to Expo station, and then take a separate shuttle train to Changi Airport station. Commuters can also take the DTL to Expo station, before transferring to the shuttle train to Changi Airport station.
For commuters travelling between Tanah Merah and Tampines EWL stations, especially Simei residents who will not have direct rail alternatives, LTA and the public transport operators have planned for shuttle bus services for commuters to continue their journeys. The shuttle bus service, Shuttle 7, will operate between Tampines, Simei and Tanah Merah stations, stopping at bus stops near to these MRT stations.
To help these commuters navigate to the shuttle buses, directional signage has been on display at the affected stations since 29 November. Informational posters have been deployed at the faregates of all MRT stations islandwide since early November. Brochures available at all North-South Line (NSL), EWL and Downtown Line (DTL) stations provide information on alternative routes, as well as of the shuttle bus stops for easier identification. Walkway banners have also been deployed at several NSL, EWL and DTL stations along and leading to the affected stretch. Commuters can also pick up a brochure from the passenger service centres at all NSL, EWL and DTL stations, to understand more about the alternative travel options.
During the period of service adjustments, commuters can also refer to signages guiding commuters to the shuttle bus pick-up and drop-off points, and station staff will also be on the ground to assist commuters. Commuters are encouraged to plan ahead and take alternate MRT routes, such as via the DTL and other MRT lines, and to cater additional travel time for their journeys.
We seek everyone’s understanding and patience during the 4-day train service adjustment period, as we continue to improve the resilience of our rail network and infrastructure for the benefit of commuters.
