10.8km of Cycling Paths in Toa Payoh Completed

News Releases 18 Oct 2025 cycling path network Walking and Cycling Town Islandwide Cycling Network (ICN)

The newly completed cycling paths in Toa Payoh now connect residents to Singapore's expanding cycling network, making it even easier to navigate within and beyond their town using active mobility options. The cycling paths, spanning around 10.8km, were launched by Mr Cai Yinzhou, Grassroots Adviser to Bishan-Toa Payoh GRO, today.

2.        The completed network provides residents with safer routes to key amenities such as HDB Hub, neighbourhood markets, food centres, parks and schools, while enhancing connectivity to transport nodes such as the North-South Line Toa Payoh and Braddell MRT stations, as well as Caldecott MRT station on the Circle Line and Thomson-East Coast Line.

3.        Beyond providing safer routes within the town, the network also strengthens inter-town cycling connectivity. A new bicycle crossing has been implemented at Lorong 8 Toa Payoh, enabling residents improved access to the nearby Kallang Park Connector and neighbouring towns such as Bishan, Ang Mo Kio and Kallang. For example, residents living in Toa Payoh can now cycle to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park in under 15 minutes, and from there cycle along the Kallang River all the way to Marina Bay.

4.        A highlight of the completed works is the careful planning of space along these cycling paths so that 2.8km of existing open drains can be reconstructed into underground drains, allowing residents to utilise the top slab for walking and cycling. Road space along Lorong 1A Toa Payoh was also repurposed into a dedicated cycling path, with two new raised zebra crossings, enhancing accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

5.        Other infrastructure enhancements included new bypass paths at more than 15 bus stops, and widened pedestrian crossings at more than eight traffic junctions to improve safety for residents and commuters. To support first-and-last-mile journeys, 64 additional bicycle parking racks were installed at Braddell MRT station.

6.        These new cycling paths will support more active lifestyles and car-free mobility options by making it convenient for residents to walk or cycle for their daily activities or simply enjoy scenic routes through their neighbourhood, contributing to personal well-being and a more sustainable Singapore.

7.        Under the Islandwide Cycling Network programme, LTA will provide cycling paths in every HDB town, bringing the cycling network to around 1,300km by 2030. This will allow 8 in 10 HDB residents to be within minutes of their nearest cycling path.
