Tolls • Deduction at land checkpoints to be automatic with full OBU migration

Media Replies 04 Nov 2025 On-Board Unit (OBU)

We refer to the letter by Mr Ong Kok Weng (“A hassle paying fee at Customs checkpoint”, 21 Oct).

Singapore is in the midst of transitioning to the new ERP2.0 On-Board Unit (OBU) system, which replaces the current In-Vehicle Unit (IU) system. To date, more than 80% of vehicles have had OBUs installed. After the OBU migration exercise is completed, we will transit to a contactless toll collection system at the land checkpoints.

Tolls at land checkpoints can then be deducted automatically via motorists’ preferred mode of contactless payment, i.e. either through CEPAS card inserted in the OBU or at the backend, if a payment account has been linked to the OBU. We hope the upcoming new feature of the OBU will make cross-border travel more convenient for motorists.

We thank Mr Ong for his feedback.
