The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be issuing refunds to around 1,700 owners of diesel and diesel-hybrid goods-cum-passengers vehicles (GPVs) for road tax collected between 1 August 2022 and 30 November 2025. This refund exercise is being conducted to address a discrepancy between the road tax rates collected and those stipulated in the relevant legislation during the specified period.
2 The six-monthly road tax rates for diesel and diesel-hybrid GPVs that has been collected since 1 August 2022 were $372 for vehicles with Maximum Laden Weight (MLW) not exceeding 3.5 metric tonnes, and $487 for vehicles with MLW exceeding 3.5 metric tonnes. However, when legislative amendments were made in 2020 to effect these rates, the rates specified were erroneously published as $298 and $390 respectively. LTA discovered the discrepancy in March 2025 and has amended the subsidiary legislation to reflect the correct rates from today onwards.
3 The refund will be made via GIRO if the affected GPV owners have registered their bank account details with LTA in their OneMotoring account, or via PayNow (NRIC/FIN/UEN) if they have registered for PayNow. No further action is required by these affected GPV owners. Once the refund transaction is successfully credited, LTA will notify recipients through an e-notification and SMS, or hardcopy letters.
4 For affected GPV owners who have not provided their bank account information to LTA and who have not registered for PayNow, LTA will notify them to update their bank account details via the OneMotoring website or to register their PayNow (NRIC/FIN/UEN) account at their bank and inform LTA.
5 To protect the public against scams, notifications from LTA will not contain any clickable links. LTA will also not contact individuals by phone to request any personal information.
6 LTA apologises for the error. We have put in place measures to strengthen our internal processes to avoid future occurrences.
