We refer to Mr David Wong Yeng Kin’s letter “How is public transport access determined for older estates?” (March 13).
When planning for public transport, including new rail lines and bus services, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) considers various factors such as commuter demand and demographics, land use plans, and the need to spend prudently to ensure financial sustainability for commuters and taxpayers.
In addition, LTA works closely with relevant agencies to ensure a balanced and sustainable approach to land use and transport planning and implementation.
While Seletar Hills estate is not directly served by an MRT station, residents have access to the public transport network through several connecting bus services along Yio Chu Kang Road that provide convenient connections to the Circle Line, North-East Line and North-South Line via Ang Mo Kio, Sengkang, Serangoon and Yio Chu Kang MRT stations.
We thank Mr Wong for his feedback. LTA will continue to monitor the travel demand in tandem with the growth in the area and review the public transport provisions.
This includes feasibility studies that we will be carrying out for new rail lines such as the Seletar Line, which would improve public transport connectivity and resilience for residents in the area if implemented.
