Factsheet: World Car-Free Day 2025: Refresh Your Journey This September

News Releases 21 Aug 2025 World Car-Free Day (WCFD) Factsheet

This September, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is leading a month-long celebration of sustainable mobility in conjunction with World Car-Free Day 2025. This collaborative initiative brings together various government agencies, organisations and Public Transport Operators (PTOs) listed in Annex A to organise car-free activities for the public.

2.        Celebrated annually on 22 September since 2000, World Car-Free Day encourages people around the world to explore car-free and sustainable commutes. For three decades, LTA has shaped a land transport system that not only connects people to places but also brings communities together. The expansion of our cycling network, implementation of the Friendly Streets programme, and various road repurposing projects have created more inclusive and accessible spaces for the community. These efforts complement our public transport network and are reinforced by outreach efforts such as the Move Lite campaign. Details about LTA’s car-lite initiatives are available in Annex B.

3.        World Car-Free Day 2025 takes on special significance as Singapore celebrates 60 years of independence. LTA, together with various government agencies, organisations and PTOs, invites everyone to ‘Refresh Your Journey’ by reflecting on how far we have come as we envision a more sustainable transport system for the future. Beyond experiencing the physical benefits of walking, cycling and riding public transport, these activities offer an opportunity to improve mental well-being by reducing stress and elevating mood, while exploring Singapore from fresh perspectives.

Highlights of World Car-Free Day 2025

4.        LTA will organise a series of car-free tours for the public in collaboration with various organisations – (a) Architecture In Motion Tours (supported by JTC Corporation, People’s Association, The Woodleigh Mall, DP Architects, DP Green and WOHA), (b) Art-In-Transit Tours, (c) Elevating Walking and Cycling Experience Tour, (d) Singapore Rail Test Centre Tours and (e) Punggol Coast MRT Station Architectural Tour.

5.        Public registration opens today for selected guided tours and activities organised by the different government agencies, organisations and PTOs. Plan your visits using the Google MyMaps guide featuring scenic bus routes, cycling routes and attractions, or participate in LTA’s BINGO card game to make your adventures more engaging.

SG60 Heritage Tours & Trails

6.        In celebration of SG60, the public can look forward to guided and self-guided heritage tours, which will encourage participants to stay active while exploring different precincts in Singapore. Commuters can also view the National Heritage Board's Heritage on the Move exhibition at a new location - Downtown Line (DTL) Tampines MRT station. Through this partnership between LTA, NHB and SBS Transit (SBST), this collection of sketches celebrating Singapore's monumental treasures invites commuters to pause, reflect, and connect with our built heritage while on the move.

7.        Other activities include SBST’s SG60 fun discovery trail with SimplyGo and Singapore Polytechnic Media & Design School, SMRT's and Stellar Ace’s Jurong West Bus-Venture: Heritage Hawker Trail, the Singapore Art Museum’s The Everyday Museum at Tanjong Pagar Tour, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore's Maritime Heritage Trail, the National Environment Agency’s Clean & Green Experiences, the National Parks Board’s Lights by the Lake at Jurong Lake Gardens and the Urban Redevelopment Authority's Stewarding Nature & Heritage in Tanjong Pagar walking tour. These activities encourage green and active modes of commuting while offering the public unique ways to experience Singapore’s rich heritage and natural spaces.

8.        More information and registration details on the World Car-Free Day 2025 activities can be found on LTA’s Website.
