Recognising Safety and Security Efforts in the Public Transport Sector

News Releases 22 Aug 2025 Public Transport Safety and Security Awards (PTSSA)

The fourth edition of the Public Transport Safety and Security Awards (PTSSA) was held today to recognise public transport workers and operators for their contributions in keeping our public transport network safe and secure. About 450 award winners and representatives from the public transport sector attended the event.

2.        Ms Sun Xueling, Senior Minister of State for National Development and Transport, delivered a speech to highlight the importance of elevating safety and security standards in the public transport system and presented Excellence and Merit awards to public transport operators. Special Commendation and Star awards were also presented to public transport workers.

3.        Awards for the operator category recognise rail, bus and point-to-point transport operators with the best safety records, and a strong commitment to commuter and workplace safety. Awards were given out to seven operators. As a new initiative, the Operator Excellence Award winner in each of the three transport domains – rail, bus and point-to-point – will have their name inscribed on a “Challenge Shield”, with the operator that accumulates the most awards in their respective category over 10 years retaining the shield permanently as a mark of their consistent excellence in safety.

4.        The Special Commendation Award recognises public transport workers for their swift and decisive actions in averting potential safety or security incidents. This year, 58 individuals were recognised for their quick action to assist commuters and other road users. Another 246 individuals received the Star Award for developing new tools, systems and processes to enhance safety and security of the public transport system in the course of their work. Please refer to the Annex for the full list of award recipients.

5.        A total of 81 Safety Champions were also appointed this year, including 25 from the point-to-point transport sector. This is the first time the initiative has been extended to point-to-point transport operators and drivers. Safety Champions mentor their colleagues on the importance of safety and security in the workplace as part of tripartite efforts to promote a safe and secure working environment.

About the Public Transport Safety and Security Awards

With millions of journeys made on public transport daily, operational and workplace safety is essential to delivering safe and reliable rides. At the same time, given the open and accessible nature of public transport, coupled with the high volume of commuters, it is essential that public transport workers remain vigilant and alert to potential security threats. Inaugurated in 2022, the PTSSA acknowledges the vital role played by our public transport operators and workers in safeguarding the safety and security of our public transport system.
