Safety a key consideration in adjusting Clementi bus routes

Media Replies 22 Oct 2026 bus routes

We refer to Mr Sun Zhixian and Mr Wang Zixin’s letters, “Call to adjust bus routes to ease congestion at Clementi bus stop” (5 October), “Support for adjusting Clementi bus routes” (9 October) and Mr Hong Yun’s letter, “Add bus stop to ease congestion at Clementi MRT station” (10 October).

We understand commuters’ concerns about congestion at the temporary Bus Stop 17171 outside Clementi MRT station and appreciate their suggestions to have selected bus services proceed directly to Clementi Bus Interchange. In a trial conducted in August 2026, we found that there was insufficient space for buses skipping the stop to then enter the left-turn lane safely.

LTA will consider whether selected bus services terminating at Clementi Bus Interchange could skip the bus stop after the original bus stop is reinstated by end-December 2026. Once the original bus stop has been reinstated, the longer distance between the bus stop and the junction will provide more room for buses to turn safely. We are also assessing whether the existing taxi stand near Clementi MRT Exit D could be converted into an additional bus stop to help ease congestion at the bus stop outside Exit A.

In the meantime, LTA and SBST will continue to monitor and manage traffic conditions as well as congestion at the temporary bus stop. We have implemented several measures to address congestion at Bus Stop 17171, including deploying marshals during peak periods, improving signages, reconfiguring the seating to create more standing space, as well as installing fans and rain screens.

With regard to Mr Hong’s comment on the alighting capacity at Clementi Bus Interchange, we would like to clarify that the interchange has two alighting berths, with space for up to three buses to alight passengers at the same time. Throughout the upgrading works, two of these three alighting lots have remained operational at any one time. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments if necessary.

We appreciate commuters’ patience and understanding as we work to improve bus operations in the area, while ensuring the safety of all road users.
