Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 5 and Downtown Line 3 Extension to Open for Passenger Service from 26 December 2026

News Releases 04 Nov 2026 Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 5 (TEL5) Downtown Line 3 Extension (DTL3e)

Three New Stations Will Enhance Rail Connectivity in the East, Providing Commuters with More Convenient Travel Options and Shorter Journeys

The Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 5 (TEL5) and Downtown Line 3 Extension (DTL3e) will open for passenger service on 26 December 2026.

2.        Spanning a total of 4.3 km[1], TEL5 and DTL3e will add three new stations to Singapore’s rail network: TE30 Bedok South, TE31/DT37 Sungei Bedok interchange and DT36 Xilin station. The new stations will improve rail connectivity and provide faster and more convenient journeys for commuters, particularly those living and working along the East Coast corridor. The new stations will enhance access to employment nodes such as Changi Business Park and Tampines Regional Centre. The new interchange at Sungei Bedok will also enable commuters to transfer between the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) and Downtown Line (DTL), providing more travel options and strengthening the resilience of our rail network.

Shorter and More Convenient Journeys for More Households

3.        With the opening of TEL5, more than 240,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk of a TEL station. Similarly, with the opening of DTL3e, over 220,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk of a DTL station.

4.        Commuters travelling between the East and other parts of Singapore can look forward to shorter and more convenient journeys with the new stations. For example, travelling from Havelock to Changi Business Park via TEL and DTL would take around 45 minutes, saving up to 25 minutes compared to the 70 minutes it takes today. Commuters travelling from Marine Parade to Tampines via TEL and DTL can also expect time savings of up to 10 minutes compared to today.

About the Thomson-East Coast and Downtown Line

5.        Since opening its first stations in 2020, the TEL has been expanded progressively. TEL5 completes the line’s five-stage planned opening, with 29 operational stations over 42.8 km. With the future extension to Changi Terminal 5, the TEL is expected to serve about one million daily commuters in the longer term.

6.        The DTL began operations in 2013 and has grown into one of Singapore's key rail corridors, connecting the north-western and eastern parts of the island through the city centre. With the opening of DTL3e, the DTL will be extended to 37 operational stations over 44.6km. Commuters in the north-western region can look forward to the DTL 2 Extension which will connect the DTL to the North-South Line and is expected to be completed in 2035.
