We thank Mr Christopher Teo Kian Lam for his feedback (“Traffic marshals adding to congestion caused by Circle Line upgrading”, Jan 27), regarding the deployment of crowd marshals at Circle Line stations during the ongoing tunnel works from 17 January to 19 April 2026. We also thank other commuters for their patience during this period of works, especially those who have adjusted their commuting habits to help us manage crowding on the Circle Line. 

Crowd marshals play an important role in helping commuters navigate such temporary service adjustments, particularly during the initial period of adjustment and at busier interchanges and platforms. They also ensure commuter safety and assist vulnerable commuters, such as elderly commuters and those with mobility challenges. 

We regularly review both staffing levels and the deployment of crowd marshals in stations to ensure that there is adequate assistance for commuters. As the Circle Line service adjustments affect a large number of our commuters, we deployed additional marshals to assist commuters during the initial period. We have since progressively scaled back the deployment levels of marshals and frequency of in-station announcements, as ground operations have been smooth and commuters have become more familiar with navigating alternative travel routes. 

We would like to assure Mr Teo and all commuters that the costs of these temporary service adjustments are not factored into the fare adjustment formula.
