We refer to the letter "Uneven roads are a safety hazard" (1 May 2026).
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) coordinates and schedules all planned road works across agencies to minimise disruption to road users and reduce the need for repeated road openings. However, unplanned works such as emergency repairs, or urgent requirements for new utilities or telecoms connections, may still arise and affect these schedules.
Where works span several days, some parts of the roads may be temporarily reinstated to allow traffic to flow safely while works are ongoing. While these roads may not be as smooth as permanent reinstatements, which require more extensive preparation, specialised equipment, and longer uninterrupted work periods, they are still safe to use. Permanent reinstatements are carried out once the works are fully completed.
All works must strictly adhere to LTA’s requirements, and regular audits are conducted to ensure standards are met, including smooth and level surfaces that are safe for use. LTA will penalise parties that do not comply with LTA’s requirements.
We are trialling clearer road markings to help motorists differentiate between temporary and permanent road surfaces.
We will continue to work with utility agencies and service providers to maintain the quality and consistency of road reinstatement works.
