The autonomous shuttle services operated by Grab and ComfortDelGro in Punggol have continued to see encouraging take-up since their launch. As of 12 July 2026, more than 11,500 unique riders have taken the autonomous shuttle services. Feedback has also been overwhelmingly positive, with 99% of around 900 respondents in the Land Transport Authority (LTA)’s post-ride surveys in July 2026 indicating that they felt safe during the ride and would recommend the ride to others.
2. However, the current fixed-route shuttle modality, with fixed pick-up points, cannot fully meet residents’ diverse travel needs. Feedback from LTA’s post-ride surveys has consistently indicated residents’ preference for greater convenience and flexibility in the form of more direct routes to their destinations and being able to choose their preferred pick-up and drop-off points. Among the survey respondents, of which around 270 are Punggol residents, almost 60% indicated that they preferred being able to choose where they board and alight, while around 40% said they preferred more direct routes to their destinations.
3. In response to this feedback, LTA has been working with both autonomous vehicle (AV) operators to enhance the existing autonomous shuttle services before revenue operations commence. For a start, Grab will be piloting an enhanced on-demand service that allows riders to book an AV to travel directly between any of the existing pick-up and drop-off points served by Grab’s Route 1 and Route 3. Instead of following a fixed route, the AV will take the most direct route between the rider’s selected pick-up and drop-off points. The pilot is expected to commence in the next few months. More details will be shared by Grab.
4. The pilot is a step towards on-demand, direct-routing services across more pick-up and drop-off points in Punggol. Pick-up and drop-off points will be added progressively based on feedback from residents. Revenue service will commence when this service eventually opens to the public. Grab will announce more details subsequently.
5. The existing fixed-route shuttle services will continue to operate alongside the enhanced on-demand service upon commencement. These fixed-route rides will also remain free of charge to allow more people to experience the AV shuttles. 6. LTA will continue to work with both Grab and ComfortDelGro to study further service enhancements to improve the convenience and accessibility of autonomous shuttle services.
