A better travel experience awaits once the 20-year-old Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) has completed its makeover. Renewal works to enhance reliability began in 2018 and is expected to be completed by 2026.
To facilitate maintenance and renewal works, as of 13 January 2019, the BPLRT network will close earlier at 11.30pm daily.
Upgrading the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT)
Benefits of Renewal Works
New Signalling system for speedier journeys
The new system allows trains to run more closely to each other, reducing intervals and creating shorter waiting times. Better speed, location and condition-tracking will offer smoother, safer and more reliable rides.
Better condition monitoring to pre-empt faults
Smart sensors and intelligent real-time condition monitoring will enable faults to be detected early.
New power rails system for more dependable power delivery
More robust power rail brackets will enhance system availability. Added to this, real-time monitoring of rail alignment will allow for predictive maintenance.
New and improved Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) for cool comfortable rides
19 new LRVs will make rides more comfortable and better for the environment. They will be fitted with smart climate control systems and energy efficient lights. The vehicles will also be equipped with efficient Alternating Current (AC) propulsion motor for easier maintenance and an in-built system control management system to monitor conditions in real-time.
