  • Tap in and tap out using the same payment card or device to ensure that you are charged the correct fare

Distance Fares

You will get a better deal and greater convenience when you use any of the payment methods except cash for your travel, as travel fares are charged based on the total distance travelled across different travel modes.

This integrated distance fare structure means there are no additional boarding charges when you transfer to different public buses or trains, as long as your journey follows these criteria:

  • The maximum duration between the first and last boarding (not alighting) of a bus or train within a journey is two hours
  • A maximum of five transfers are allowed with no additional boarding charges
  • 45 minutes for transfers between train station and bus service, or between different bus services
  • 15 minutes for transfers between different train stations
  • The current bus service must not be the same number as the preceding bus service
  • No exit and re-entry at the same train station

Fares will be charged by per bus ride if you pay by cash, which will be higher than using travel cards/bank cards/mobile payment.

Free Morning Off-Peak Rail Travel is introduced to moderate travel demand during weekday morning peak hours and improve the commuter experience. Commuters who shift their travel times to before or after the peak period can benefit from free rail travel, while others will experience less crowded rides and fewer missed trains.

NEL Line

From 27 December 2025, commuters who tap in at any of the 6 North East Line (NEL) stations between Punggol Coast station and Kovan station or any Sengkang-Punggol LRT (SPLRT) station, before 7.30am or between 9.00am and 9.45am on weekdays (excluding public holidays), will enjoy free travel for the first rail trip of the journey.

No registration is required. Free rides will automatically apply, as long as commuters tap in and out using the same fare card or payment mode.

All other commuters will continue to enjoy up to 50-cent discount off their rail trips under the Morning Pre-Peak Fares | Public Transport Council scheme when they tap in before 7.45am at any rail station islandwide on weekdays (excluding public holidays).

To further encourage NEL/SPLRT commuters who use buses for the first and last mile of their journeys to shift their travel times, reward points redeemable for cash rebates will be awarded to commuters who register for the Travel Smart Journeys (TSJ) programme via the SimplyGo app.

Refer to the News Release which includes examples of how travelling during morning pre-peak hours can help you save on your daily commute.

TSJ Logo

Travel Smart Journeys (TSJ) programme was first introduced in February 2020 on Bus Service 43e to help distribute peak-hour public transport demand by encouraging commuters staying in the northeast region to adopt alternative modes of travel.

TSJ logo

Further enhancements to TSJ programme were implemented throughout the years:

• Including more bus services, connecting northeast region residents to city areas;

• Introducing incentives for commuters who switch their travel times to off-peak; and

• Enhanced reward scheme.

Commuters who registered for the TSJ programme can earn points, worth 80% of their journey fares when they:

• Take eligible bus services during the morning operational hours; or

• Take connecting bus rides for first and last mile connection, before/after tapping in at any of the 6 North East Line (NEL) stations between Punggol Coast station and Kovan station or any Sengkang-Punggol LRT (SPLRT) station, during morning off-peak periods on weekdays (excluding public holidays).

TSJ Banner

From 27 December 2025, to further encourage NEL/SPLRT commuters who use buses for the first and last mile of their journeys to shift their travel times, TSJ programme will be adjusted to:

a)      Align Eligibility Window Between TSJ and Free Morning Off-Peak Rail Travel

The pre-peak eligibility window will be extended from before 7.15am to before 7.30am to align with that of Free Morning Off-Peak Rail Travel. The post-peak rewards will also be standardised at 80% for travel between 9.00am to 9.45am, an increase from the previous 40% for those who tap in between 9.31am to 9.45am. Commuters will now enjoy free travel on the rail leg of their journey under the Free Morning Off-Peak Rail Travel scheme, and earn 80% rebate on the bus leg(s) of their journey under TSJ programme.

b)     Simplify Enrolment Process

The requirement for commuters to have a qualifying travel history will be removed. All commuters will be eligible for TSJ immediately upon registration via the SimplyGo app.

c)      Extend TSJ Rebate to Five New Bus Services

Five new City Direct Services (CDS) 679, 680, 681, 682 and 683 will be added, connecting residents in Hougang, Sengkang and Punggol Towns to city areas such as the Central Business District and Orchard.

The enhanced incentives are summarised below:

For commuters who take a connecting bus service before/after their NEL/SPLRT ride

For commuters who switch to eligible bus services during weekday mornings

Pre-peak (before 7.30am)

 •   80% journey fare rebate for those who tap in at eligible NEL/SPLRT* station before 7.30am

 Post-peak (between 9.00am and 9.45am)

 •   80% journey fare rebate for those who tap in at eligible NEL/SPLRT* station between 9am and 9.45am

 * Eligible stations include Punggol Coast,  Punggol, Sengkang, Hougang, Buangkok  and Kovan NEL station, and any Sengkang- Punggol LRT station

80% journey fare rebate for those who take eligible bus services during weekdays (excluding public holidays) morning operational hours.

For eligible bus services and the respective bus routes, please visit SimplyGo's website.

Thumbs Up

To qualify for incentives, commuters must:

  • First sign up for an account on the SimplyGo mobile app; and
  • Enrol in the TSJ programme.

Enrolment is instant and commuters can start earning points as soon as the next working day.
