LTA to Roll Out Safe Riding Programme from 1 February 2018
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is stepping up efforts to deter errant use of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) on roads and encourage safe riding habits. Besides the enhanced penalties for on-road use that take effect today, LTA will roll out the Safe Riding Programme (SRP) from 1 February 2018 to educate cyclists and PMD users on safe riding habits.
PMD riders caught on roads face higher penalties
2. Since LTA stepped up enforcement against use of PMDs on roads at the start of this year, 38 PMD riders have been caught so far. This was more than the 22 riders caught over the same period last year and includes 11 riders caught at the vicinity of Loyang Drive this morning who will face higher penalties with effect from today.

Shaping a safer Active Mobility culture through education
4. LTA is rolling out its Safe Riding Programme from 1 February 2018. Cyclists and PMD users will learn how to ride safely and learn more about the rules and code of conduct under the Active Mobility Act. The 90-minute programme integrates theory and practice in a training circuit, which helps participants build up their skills and understanding of how to ride safely in different situations (please refer to Annex B for more information on SRP).
5. The programme will be conducted at various community clubs, schools, migrant workers dormitories, and other organisations, such as SAFRA and Civil Service Club. The programme will be free for the first year. Interested parties can find out more and sign up online at http://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb/en/walk-cycle-ride/SRP.html Active mobility users who are caught for riding recklessly will be required to attend the SRP and pay the full course fees.
6. Over the next few months, LTA will continue to ramp up its nation-wide public education campaign to raise public awareness of the new Active Mobility rules and the penalties for flouting these rules.
