As a motorist, there is a Shakespeare moment at every right turn – to turn or not to turn. Should you turn when the coast is clear, or wait first for the green arrow to appear?
With Red Amber Green (RAG) arrows, there will no longer be a need for an added decision process. Motorists at junctions equipped with RAG arrows will have to stop when it is a red arrow and turn right only when the green arrow appears.
First introduced in 1999, our overall target is to install RAG arrows at 1,200 junctions to improve safety by 2024.
Motorists can now see at one glance if they should stop, slow down or go before it’s their turn to, well, turn.
