Watt a Smart Street Light!

Keeping our roads well lit year round is no mean feat. Which is why LTA has a “task force” of Fix-it Felixes to manage more than 110,000 street lights under its charge.

When the lights are not working, members of this crack team get to work quickly. It takes as little as two hours for more urgent cases to get the street lights powered up and good to glow again.

The alert could come from daily patrols by LTA officers and contractors, public feedback, and our latest secret weapon — the new Remote Control and Monitoring System (RCMS).

Have you noticed that our streets are increasingly bathed in a natural white glow instead of the familiar amber hue? The change is part of our efforts to implement more energy-efficient infrastructure using LED technology.

Without the heavy orange cast, the new LEDs help you see more clearly on the road — almost like in high definition. The LEDs are also more energy efficient, consuming more than 25% less energy than the traditional High-Pressure Sodium street lights. All LTA street lights also comply with international and local lighting standards.

That’s not all. The lifespan of the new LED street lights is approximately 10 years — seven years longer than normal street lights. This means less frequent replacements and lower maintenance costs. Talk about a bright idea.
