Refreshing our Land Transport Master Plan

Currently, you can look forward to new rail lines, better bus connections, expanded cycling networks and more covered linkways that help you get to where you want to go safely and comfortably. However, we believe Singapore’s transport system should evolve with changing needs to create opportunities for all to live, work and play. Your transport stories, needs and aspirations will help to chart the course towards an accessible and inclusive transport system.

Public Consultation and Engagement Exercise

We conducted the first series of Land Transport Master Plan (LTMP) Refresh Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) across six sessions from 17 January to 12 February 2026. Over 200 participants from diverse backgrounds shared their commuting experiences, needs, and aspirations to help shape the next phase of our land transport system and better meet the evolving needs and aspirations of Singaporeans.

Some of the key insights shared from the sessions are:

Connecting People

  • Participants wanted more destinations served by public transport, with more frequent bus and train services during peak hours.
  • Most agreed public transport should be prioritised over private transport to reduce travel time gaps.
  • Participants wanted more mobility options, including limited-stop bus services for direct journeys to transport nodes, better walking and cycling infrastructure for first-and last-mile connectivity, and more shared transport like on-demand shuttles to employment centres. They acknowledged these options may cost more and require higher fares.
  • Use of technology to provide real-time travel information and integrated journey planning for smoother end-to-end journeys.

Comfortable Journeys

  • Safety and comfort were two key aspects highlighted.
  • There was strong support for repurposing road space to provide wider paths for pedestrians and providing more road priority to public transport users.
  • Participants also proposed slowing down vehicle speeds in residential neighbourhoods to improve pedestrian safety.
  • Participants also hoped to see more covered linkways and weather-proofed bus stops.

Community

  • Participants expressed a desire for a more inclusive transport system, and a kinder and more gracious commuter culture.
  • A more inclusive transport system would also make it easier for families with young children, and persons with mobility challenges to travel.
  • Participants also suggested increasing public education to inculcate gracious and caring behaviour in shared spaces.
  • There was also strong interest in transforming transport nodes into community hubs.
