Safety, Health & Environment

LTA is committed to the safety and health of our staff and commuters. Safety is integral to all our projects; we aim to achieve zero incidents and no negative health impact in all our construction projects. To this end, we have implemented the Project Safety Review (PSR) certification process for rail and major road projects to formally assess safety aspects before projects begin, and ensure that acceptable levels of safety procedures are in place.

PSR is a risk management process to systematically identify, mitigate and track major civil hazards throughout the project cycle. The goal is to limit and/or eradicate the impact of construction activities on adjacent structures, utilities and subsequent maintenance activities. LTA’s PSR process is similar to the Ministry of Manpower's Design for Safety process as they are both based on the principle of reducing risk at source.

To ensure high environmental standards, contractors working on LTA construction projects must comply with legal requirements, and those in the LTA Safety, Health and Environment Specifications for eliminating and mitigating workplace risks and environmental harm at our construction sites. The LTA Safety, Health and Environment System (SHEMS) ensures that our staff work under acceptable occupational safety and health conditions, and that contractors have SHE procedures in place. The SHEMS management system prescribes the environmental protection measures to keep our work environmentally sustainable. In addition, LTA is certified in both OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO14001:2015
