You told us where you love to cycle to for your chow. We heard you and we love these places too! We’ve even worked out how many calories you can burn while riding, and how this translates into some food rewards!

Seeking a spread worth cycling to? Here are six routes for you!

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it a gazillion times more: cycling is a great activity! The perks of pedalling run the gamut from getting a whole-body workout, to lifting your mood, to convenient transport that is readily accessible. It gets you from door to door (like to your favourite eatery or the new joint everyone is talking about) without worry about finding a car park. Along the way, you get to experience and appreciate the neighbourhood better, and what’s more, you can offset the calories burned against your next meal!
In February last year, we invited our CONNECT readers to share your favourite food spots that you cycle to. From the many great suggestions, we now bring you a handful to start you off on your adventures.
Saddle up and start pedalling for what your meal is worth!
Food Destination #1: Boh Geh Uncle Canteen

What’s hot at this spot: Ride back in time to this kampong kopitiam with strong rustic vibes. Tasty, no-fuss cai fan and nasi padang make it a wholly satisfying visit.

Route: Yishun MRT station > Yishun Ave 8 > Yishun Ave 1 (cross Yishun dam) > Seletar West Link > Seletar Aerospace Drive
What’s great along the way: Cycling across the Yishun dam with the Lower Seletar Reservoir on one side and the Straits of Johor on the other is pretty awesome. Cycling into the aerospace district is cool, too. Look out for rare birds also at the Hampstead Wetlands Park.
Estimated time: 26 mins cycling at moderate “Zone 2” heart rate speed.
You earned: Just one fried chicken wing, alas.
Food Destination #2: Springleaf Prata

What’s hot at this spot: Singapore’s arguably most famous prata joint is known for its offbeat prata menu, with over 60 variations on offer. Däs Prätwürst, anyone?

Route: Admiralty MRT station > Gambas Ave > Sembawang Hot Spring > Yishun Ave 7 > Yishun Ave 8 > Lower Seletar Reservoir Park > Springleaf Park Connector Network
What’s great along the way: Take five to warm up those calf muscles at the Sembawang Hot Spring Park (our one natural hot spring on the mainland). Carry on in a leisurely loop around the Lower Seletar Reservoir Park, extending the relaxation from the thermal spa.
Estimated time: 45 minutes cycling slowly.
Food Destination #3: Fico

What’s hot at this spot: The posh seaside holiday buzz justifies a bit of a splurge at this Michelin Bib Gourmand bistro.

Route: Pasir Ris Park > Tampines Park Connector > Tampines Ave 9 > Tampines Ave 10 > Bedok Reservoir > Sungei Bedok park connector > East Coast Park
What’s great along the way: If you need a loo break, the eco-toilet at Tampines Eco Green is something different to try! If you’re cycling over the weekend, look for the traditional bird singing area at Bedok Reservoir Park for some sweet tunes.
Estimated time: 50 mins at a moderate pace.
You earned: One of Fico’s signature focaccinas, which they’ve described as a “focaccia-pizza love child”.
Food Destination #4: Amoy Street Food Centre

What’s hot at this spot: Amoy Street Food Centre is practically an institution. You’ll be spoilt for choice—six stalls here have been distinguished by the Michelin Guide—with everything from fish soup to ayam penyet to pho to ban mian to quesadillas!

Route: Jurong East MRT station > Ulu Pandan Park Connector > Rail Corridor/The Greenway > Anson Rd > Telok Ayer
What’s great along the way: The Ulu Pandan Park Connector is one of the most beloved among walkers and casual cyclists for its greenery along the Ulu Pandan River. Join up with the Rail Corridor and spot quaint old buildings, from the black-and-white colonial houses of Wessex Estate to Sri Muneeswaran temple, Masjid Hang Jebat and the old Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.
Estimated time: 1 hour of moderate cycling.
You earned: A Michelin Bib Gourmand listed curry puff and a Michelin Bib Gourmand bowl of ramen.
Food Destination #5: Changi Village Hawker Centre

What’s hot at this spot: Think “Changi Village Hawker Centre” and nasi lemak surely springs to mind. After all, the three stalls there that sell it won notice for the long queues that formed every day. But which is the best? You’ve just got to try them all.

Route: Marina Bay Sands > Gardens by The Bay > Bay East > East Coast Park > Tanah Merah Coast Rd > Changi Beach Park > Changi Village
What’s great along the way: Beyond the famous icons of MBS and the Gardens’ domes, you could hunt for another icon along Changi Beach, which only those in the know, know—a toy dino cemented onto the rocks at Changi Bay Point!
Estimated time: 2 hours cycling at a moderate speed.
You earned: Nasi lemak with fried chicken plus a teh tarik too.
Food Destination #6: ChikSoo Korean Kitchen

What’s hot at this spot: Sacrificed watching your K-drama to go cycling? You chose the better option, but can still get your K-fix from the extensive menu at ChikSoo, in Oasis Terraces next to the Oasis LRT station.

Route: Great World MRT station > Kim Seng Park > Singapore River > Rochor River > Kallang River to Ang Mo Kio through Bishan Park > Buangkok > Punggol Park Connector along Sungei Punggol > Punggol Waterway
What’s great along the way: How many rivers can you meet on a short ride? Four, in this case, plus Singapore’s longest manmade waterway. A tiny detour will give you a glimpse of our last remaining kampong at Lorong Buangkok, as well.
Estimated time: 2.5 hours at a moderate clip.
You earned: 2 pieces of Korean fried chicken, a serving of army stew and a bingsu. You deserve it!
Note: Ride durations and calories are estimations from the optimistic perspective of a hungry and determined rider.
