Reducing Railway Noise

Reducing Railway Noise 2

As an on-going effort to reduce the impact of railway noise near residential areas, LTA called a tender on the 2 June 2017, to install an additional of 10km of railway noise barriers at 20 new locations along the North-South and East-West lines.

The noise barriers will help to reduce noise levels from passing trains by about five to 10 decibels.

LTA has already completed installing about 8.5km of railway noise barriers at 16 locations across the island under Phase 1 in end-2016. Installation of another 3km of barriers along nine other locations are ongoing and expected to be completed by 2018.

The installation of the railway noise barriers is a complex process which involves extensive retrofitting of existing railway structures. See: Installation process of railway noise barriers
