Traffic Signs & Schemes

LTA places great emphasis on providing a safe environment for all road users.

We design traffic signs and schemes to:

  • Ensure safe and orderly flow of traffic
  • Protect pedestrians and motorists at busy intersections
  • Reduce the severity and frequency of road accidents

LTA standardises the designs and locations of traffic signs so that they can be read and understood from a glance.

Follow the Signs

Traffic signs and road markings are our primary communication devices to inform the public of laws and regulations, traffic and road conditions and other guiding information.

We rely on our road users to willingly obey our traffic signs.

Know the Schemes

Major Traffic Schemes are in place to help you get to your destination faster. We need your cooperation to ensure a smoother journey for all.

Left Turn on Red (LTOR) Scheme

Motorists are allowed to turn left at red signals when it is safe to do so.

Extension of Full Day Bus Lane Scheme

The Bus Lane Scheme gives buses priority on the roads. The scheme operates from 7.30am to 8pm on all weekdays and Saturdays, except public holidays.

Mandatory Give-Way to Buses Scheme

Motorists must give way to buses exiting the bus lane. The scheme allows buses to pull out of the bus bay easily and continue on their journey without delays.

Read more about the scheme in our Buses section.

Traffic Diversion Scheme at Woodlands Centre Road

Motorists entering Woodlands Checkpoint must proceed into Old Woodlands Road or Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) during the restricted hours:

  • Mondays to Fridays: 4pm-10pm
  • Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays: 10am-10pm
