On 27 December 2015, 12 new stations were officially opened for Downtown Line 2 (DTL2), complementing the existing 6 that have been in operation since December 2013. These 12 new stations have improved the accessibility to places of interest and improved the travel times of commuters, especially those who travel along the Bukit Timah and Bukit Panjang areas.
As of mid-July 2016, the average daily weekday ridership of DTL has increased to more than 250,000.

DTL has not just benefited those who reside along it, but also commuters from other parts of Singapore. People around Sengkang and even Woodlands have been using DTL as a way to reach their destinations.
