Going car-lite in the Jurong Lake District (JLD), Singapore’s second Central Business District, is now easier with the completion of a 15km dedicated cycling path network. JLD is the 8th intra-town cycling path network in Singapore. This is part of the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) long term plan to progressively construct dedicated cycling path networks in all HDB towns to enhance first and last mile connections. Punggol, Singapore’s first eco-town, joins the ranks of cycling towns with the completion of an 8.8km-long dedicated cycling path network. This is part of efforts by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to promote Walk Cycle Ride SG by making it safer and more seamless to walk and cycle to public transport nodes. It will be more convenient, comfortable and safer to walk, cycle, and use public transport, as the Government expands walking and cycling infrastructure for a Car-lite Singapore. At the same time, the National Parks Board (NParks) will be starting development works for the 150km Park Connector Network Round Island Route to link up parks, park connectors and communities by the end of the year. Works to transform Ang Mo Kio into a model walking and cycling town have begun. Phase 1 of the works, which includes a 4km cycling path looping around Ang Mo Kio Avenues 1, 3, and 8, is expected to be completed by the first half of 2016. The remaining works, which feature a 16km-long cycling path network, are expected to be mostly completed by 2018. For more details, please refer to the attached news release.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) have drawn up preliminary plans to make Ang Mo Kio a more walkable and cyclist-friendly town.
