1. Come December this year, Boon Lay residents will be able to switch between bus and train in comfort when its new air-conditioned bus interchange opens to the public and starts revenue service. Together with Boon Lay MRT station, the new interchange will benefit 150,000 existing commuters daily and those staying in the nearby developments.

2. The new interchange, which can hold up to 60 buses with 31 boarding/alighting berths, at 20,000 sq m is the biggest integrated bus interchange built by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) so far. It links to Boon Lay MRT station via Jurong Point 2 shopping centre. The bus interchange, MRT station and the shopping mall make up Boon Lay Integrated Public Transport Hub (Integrated PT Hub).

3. The distance from the furthest bus boarding berth to the MRT station is a mere 190m or 3.4min in walking time. The Integrated PT Hub is designed to be commuter-friendly by providing them with easy access to the shopping area as well as seamless transfers between transport modes.

4. The new interchange is also designed for wheelchair access. All entrances and exits of the interchange are barrier-free.

5. Currently, commuters use a temporary open air interchange located next to Boon Lay MRT station since the demolition of the old interchange in 2006 to make way for the new one.

LTA's Other Integrated PT Hubs

6. Boon Lay Integrated PT Hub will be the fourth concept hub to commence operation. The LTA has already constructed bus interchanges at Toa Payoh, Sengkang and Ang Mo Kio which are fully integrated with the Rapid Transit System stations and adjoining commercial developments.

7. In the next 10 years, the LTA will be building more integrated interchanges at Serangoon, Clementi, Jurong East, Bedok, Joo Koon and Marina South. Serangoon and Clementi Integrated PT Hubs will be next in line to open in 2011.

Integrated PT Hubs are Lifestyle Hubs

8. "Integrated PT Hubs is part of the LTA's plan to ensure the whole journey experience is pleasant for the commuters. With air-conditioned bus interchanges and MRT/LRT stations co-locating with retail and commercial activities, Integrated PT Hubs allows transfers to be done seamlessly and comfortably, and also provides added convenience as commuters can do some shopping before transferring to their connecting bus or train," said Mr Chan Kwok Cheong, LTA's Director for Public Transport Promotion.

9. The LTA also hopes to inject more buzz into these transport nodes by introducing more retail spaces, transforming them into lifestyle hubs and making them fun, exciting and accessible meeting points among friends and family.

10. Besides bus interchanges, such lifestyle hubs can also be found at MRT stations such as Dhoby Ghaut Xchange at Dolby Ghaut MRT station and Chua Chu Kang Xchange at Chua Chu Kang MRT station.

Residents and Businesses Welcome New Interchange's Opening

11. Boon Lay residents and Jurong Point merchants are eagerly waiting for the new interchange to open.

12. "I am just glad that I would not have to wait for my bus in the heat soon. And since I have to go through Jurong Point 2 to get to the new interchange, I can conveniently run my errands and do some shopping on my way home," said Dr Luliru, a 32-year-old Jurong West resident.

13. "We are expecting a higher human traffic to Jurong Point as people change from bus to train and vice versa. More people may even switch to taking the bus or the train, it's just so convenient and comfortable! And of course, more people means more shoppers means more business!" said Mr Lee Choon Huat, 71, who runs restaurant Pioneer Wharf at Jurong Point 2.
