No plans to develop Jurong LRT for now

I refer to Mr Ah Min's letter 'No further news about development of Jurong LRT' (Lianhe Wanbao, 28 April 2008).

The proposed Jurong Region Line (JRL) is a light rail system which aims to improve accessibility to and within the Jurong Industrial areas, Jurong East and West residential estates and Nanyang Technological University.

The development of a new rail line depends on its financial viability to ensure sustainability. Based on current passenger demand, there are no immediate plans to implement the JRL.

Nevertheless, LTA will continue to monitor passenger demand in the Jurong area and through initiatives such as centralised bus route planning and premium bus services, will ensure that there is a good public transport network for commuters in the area.
